β° When to report
Report a dog attack immediately, regardless of whether it occurred on public or private property. You should also report wandering, nuisance and barking dogs as soon as possible so Council can investigate. Council provides dedicated reporting pathways for dog attacks, barking dogs, nuisance animals and wandering animals.

π Information you may need
Be prepared to provide:
- Date and time of the incident
- Location of the incident
- Description of the dog(s)
- Details of what occurred
- Owner details (if known)
- Any photographs, videos or witness information that may assist Council's investigation
Council will investigate reported dog attacks and has the authority under the Companion Animals Act 1998 to declare a dog dangerous, menacing or restricted, and may seize dogs involved in an attack where appropriate.

If there is an immediate threat to life or a serious emergency, call 000.
For after-hours emergency dog attacks, call (02) 9843 0555 and follow the prompts. Council's after-hours service responds to emergency dog attacks only. Reports of wandering dogs or barking dogs will be attended to during business hours.

Even if the dog has left the area or no one was injured, reporting roaming or aggressive dog behaviour can help councils identify repeat incidents and intervene before someone or another animal is seriously harmed.
