⏰ When to report

Report a dog attack as soon as possible if you have been attacked or witnessed a dog attack involving a person or another animal. Council also encourages residents to report roaming dogs and other companion animal concerns promptly so Rangers can investigate and take appropriate action. Dog owners are responsible for ensuring their dogs do not rush at, attack, bite, harass or chase any person or animal.

Council provides information and assistance for:

• Dog attacks

• Roaming dogs

• Lost and found pets

• Responsible pet ownership

• Dog exercise and off-leash areas

• Other companion animal enquiries.

📝 Information you may need

Be prepared to provide:

• Date and time of the incident

• Location of the incident

• Description of the dog(s)

• Details of what occurred

• Owner details (if known)

• Whether the dog is still roaming

• Any photographs, videos or witness information that may assist Council's investigation

Providing as much information as possible helps Council Rangers investigate the incident promptly.

🚨 Emergency

If there is an immediate threat to life or a serious emergency, call 000.

If you find a roaming dog that cannot be returned to its owner, contact Lake Macquarie City Council Rangers on (02) 4921 0333. If it is safe to do so, Council recommends first checking for identification or taking the dog to a veterinarian to scan for a microchip.
