β° When to report
Report a dog attack as soon as possible if you have witnessed or been involved in an incident. Council also encourages residents to report roaming, aggressive and nuisance dogs promptly so Rangers can investigate and take appropriate action. Ranger Services also respond to community reports relating to animal control and public safety.

Council provides information and assistance for:
- Dog attacks
- Barking dogs
- Roaming dogs
- Responsible dog ownership
- Lost and found animals
- Animal management enquiries.
π Information you may need
Be prepared to provide:
- Date and time of the incident
- Location of the incident
- Description of the dog(s)
- Details of what occurred
- Owner details (if known)
- Any photographs, videos or witness information that may assist Council's investigation
For barking dog complaints, Council requires complainants from at least two affected households to complete 28-day Barking Dog Diaries and be willing to provide evidence if legal proceedings become necessary.

If there is an immediate threat to life or a serious emergency, call 000.
For after-hours emergencies, including serious dog attacks and other public safety issues, contact Bellingen Shire Council on (02) 6655 7300. Rangers are on call after hours for emergency matters only.
